Hannah Quote of the Moment

"Do cats wear collars? Maybe they don't need collars because they won't run away because they are smart."

Abby Quote of the Moment

"I will be the mom. But who will be the dad? I think I will wear mom's wedding dress."

NOT a preschooler

It occurred to me at the end of this week that Hannah is no longer a preschooler. Wednesday marked the end of her preschool career and while it fills me with nostalgia, it is really is about time. I would love to kid myself that she is not growing at a rate I can't even comprehend, but she proves otherwise.

Does this look like a preschooler? I think not. She reads, she writes, she counts to 120 just for fun. She even has a big girl haircut. However, I find comfort in this.

Abby is also advancing at a startling fast rate and will soon leave toddler-hood behind and enter the preschool-age set (she starts in the fall for what will be a three year career-the benefit/pitfall of an October baby). Abby shows that she is up to this new age set-a friend watched Abby on Monday and described talking to her like a "mini-adult". Today when Kevin asked her why my bag was in her room she clearly explained, "I was mad at you and Mommy. You wanted me to sit and eat chicken but I didn't want to. So I took the bag and put it in my room." Yeah, that is what happened. She also will proudly tell you that you spell Abby "A-B-Y" which, although wrong, is especially impressive given that we didn't teach her.

Retry and our site

Today we headed to Spokane to get me fingerprinted again. We hope that the combination of extreme lotioning for a week and a big city clerk who fingerprints all the time will produce better (clearer) results. Only time, and the FBI, will tell.... (the clerk did say that she thought the ridge detail was clear, but that I have a lot of creases in them.)

We also today got a link to our website that our agency created. It is basically the profile that Kevin and I made but put online. So, the wording is all ours (except they made me edit it down a bit--I can be a bit verbose, surprised?) as is the picture selection, they just put it together. Their online sites (and they have numerous ones) are a big outreach that they do to birthmoms and a way for birthmoms to find families that match what they are looking for. I was excited to see it and to also get the news that our profiles are starting to be sent out to potential birthmoms. Basically, game on and a match is now possible (provided that the birthmom isn't due prior to me being cleared by the FBI). So really, now is the time for PRAYER!

Since the site will tell you our preferences (you have to click on a link that says "Learn about us"), I thought I would just put that down here. It is a bit strange--picking out your child's characteristics. Not that it goes super specific, but still, strange. We said a newborn up to 6 months old, yes to twins (Abby made me) although it is highly unlikely, any race (we were first drawn to this agency based on their outreach to African American babies which sadly have a hard time finding homes in white America) and boy.

The last part was the toughest for us, much tougher then race and we have really debated keeping it a choice. Since we started out hoping to adopt a Chinese girl I can tell you it has nothing to do with us not being fans of girls. Honestly, I think it has something to do with the fact that I can't adopt a Chinese girl and our girl name that we have picked out is too strongly associated with a sweet Asian baby that we can't have right now (yes, I use right now--I'm not ready to totally give her up yet, God moves in mysterious ways). Plus, despite my fears that this be construed as somehow anti-girl (or worse, anti-completely thrilled that we have two girls who we wouldn't change for anything), this child, who I view in various shades of brown (although a blond haired, blue eyed babe might be ours), is a boy. It could change- as I stated in our first adoption post, we make plans and then God moves and we learn to move with Him. If tomorrow someone was to say that they knew a birthmom pregnant with a girl who needed a home, Kevin and I would be fine with that. But for now, boy.
